Hard lump in centre of chest male.

A few weeks ago I noticed when my son was lying with me with his head on my chest I felt a strong pain, when he moved I could feel a hard lump which hurt when I pressed it. It dosent pertrude and is located where my rib cage meets. I thought I might go away but is still there. It's not painful unless I press on it.

im not sure if I should contact a doctor, plus the fact that currently it is impossible to get an appointment.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

Many people complain of lumps and bumps and most of the time there is nothing to worry about. We can't diagnose you so do persist in getting a GP's appointment so they can take a look and let you know what they think it could be.

You can sometimes book an appointment online. Have a look at the NHS information about how to book an appointment here

I do hope that you manage to make an appointment.

    Best Wishes,

    Catherine

  • This to me sounds like it could possibly be your sternum. Some peoples are more obvious than others, the only reason I'm saying this is because I worried about the exact same thing on my son when he was a baby as he had a rock solid ball centre of his chest - when he got checked over I was told it was his sternum. Sometimes it can get injured, inflamed etc which is why it could also be tender. But there's no harm in getting it looked over, it's always best to be safe.
