How long till

How long will it take for my body to come back to near normal it has been 6 weeks since my last chemo as my Kidneys were beeing attached and I also ended up with clots in my lungs so it was thought best to stop after 3 treatments.  I had what I call the beast removed along with everyelse I had ovarine cancer.  My hands still shake as it takes me a wee while to type this, my feet and hands still tingle and I get a bit unsteady. I am still worried that it wii come back my first CA125 was 680 now down down to 27 so not had a blood test like that for a while, can I ask for one.

  • Hi Moneypenny,

Wow you've had it tough! I thought I was bad being allergic to my treatment and it being stopped as it would kill me before the cancer.

Anyway everyone is different and chemo can take up to a year to leave the body. The shaking and tingling could be down to nerve damage and might never go unfortunately.

27 is around the normal range so that's good. Next time you're in contact with your oncologist you can ask him if you can have a blood test. However it does seem like your cancer has been removed. You'll be monitored for a few years yet but begin the new year with the knowledge that you beat it and you're well.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

People vary in how they recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. But most people see an improvement in their symptoms around 6 to 12 weeks after finishing chemotherapy treatment.

It seems that you had a good response to the chemotherapy as your CA125 level is within normal limits. Your hospital team should be able to tell you when you are next due for a blood test, so do ask them about this when you get the chance. If you have a specialist nurse involved in your care then you can also discuss this with them.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
