Really worried about colon/ stomach

So three months ago I suddenly got lower back pain, stomach aches. This then went to daily after a week.
it got worse and worse and then I started getting nausea. One night I woke up sweating feeling sick and fainted. Ambulance came hospital said my number were fine and bloods too and sent me home.
then the sickness and weakness is daily and long with tummy trouble! I've lost weight without trying and have bright blood in my poo sometimes with mucas too.
I have times when the sickness and I wellness overtakes me and I feel like I'm dying!
went back to hospital yesterday who said same thing that I'm ok.
they have booked a colonoscopy but don't know when that will be.
Im so scared

im 44 with kids!

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation and the horrible time that you have been having.

It is so easy to think the worst when symptoms are affecting your every day life but there are other conditions far less serious than cancer that may be the cause but of course it is important to rule cancer out.

It might be helpful to go and chat through your symptoms with your GP and see whether your colonoscopy has been requested as an urgent referral or whether you are having it has a routine procedure. You can read about an urgent referral here

It is good to hear that all your blood tests were within normal limits but it would be good for you to be reviewed by your GP and see whether there is any medication that they maybe able to prescribe whilst you are waiting for your colonoscopy.

The colonoscopy is really the gold standard treatment when patients present with bowel symptoms and it enables the doctor or endoscopist to visualise the bowel and if necessary take some biopsies.

Try not to overthink it all for now until you know more.

If you would like to chat through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then do get back to us or give us a ring. We are here monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040

    All the Very Best,

    Catherine
