Cervical ectropion

Hi,

I have had irregular bleeding whilst on the combined oral contraceptive. This is the first time I've experienced this so went to my gp who examined me and said its likely to be a cervical ectropian and that she was going to refer me red flag to gynae. She then changed her mind to refer just as urgent as I have has this treated before. I suppose my concern is that she thinks this is what it is but what if its something more sinister as I've read the 2 can get mixed up? Surely if her initial thought was to red flag it should've been left at that. Not that I want it to be a cause for a red flag but I'm just worried. I've had normal smears with my last being in Jan 2021 so I asked for another but they told me no. Will the gynae doctor make sure there's nothing more sinister when I go for my appointment? I've changed to the mini pill now and have started bleeding a week in and am now all out of sorts in that department too. Dont know whether I'm coming or going. Anyone with experience of this please feel free to enlighten/reassure me!! Thank you

  • Hello and thank for posting.

I'm sorry you are going through this, understandably you must feel a bit all over the place with it.

When you see the Gynae doctor they will assess and examine you thoroughly regardless of how you've been referred.

I have posted here information you may have seen before on cervical ectropion,

Others may come forward with their own experiences, but do remember their situations will be individual to them.

Take care and I hope you get more information on what is going on for you soon.

    Sarah.
