Painful biopsy couldn't do it

Is it just me? I've read up on this and says little uncomfortable, take pain killers before, but yesterday I felt pain never experienced ever.

Had to attend gynae to see consultant, lining of womb thicker than should be. After consultantation she offered to do biopsy or go for another US, I was there so chose biopsy. At first felt OK, like the beginning of a smear, she then said you will feel a little pinch after three...... 1.....2 omg! I have never felt pain like it, felt like my insides were being dragged upwards, I'm pretty tough with things like this, but she had to stop, she tried one last time but no good. I now have to go back for hysteroscopy under general.

Today I have niggling pain, left lower stomach and back, I've had some dark brown discharge and just feel not right.

I feel like an idiot not getting it done yesterday but I just couldn't do it. I have fibromyalgia and wonder if that made it worse? I've also never had kids and she said that could make it a little more uncomfortable.

Any advice?

  • I was actually ok when I had my hysteroscopy and biopsies done, just pain killers before and they offered gas and air if I needed it but its definitely not just you. I've no idea why for some women its really painful and others not but there are plenty of threads in this forum from women who had the same experience as yourself. Hopefully it won't be too long til you get your date for the procedure under GA.

Afterwards I had discharge for 2-3 days and some niggling pain. I needed painkillers for the first 48 hours. Hopefully you will feel better soon but certainly not having it done does not make you an idiot. Good luck going forward

  • Thank you for your response, gas and air would have probably helped, they offered nothing. The consultant was so good and felt bad for hurting me, she did comment after that she thought it maybe difficult as not had any children. Just felt like wasted their time.

I may discuss my options when get a date as not overly keen on GA.

    Xx

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

Don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone has different pain thresholds. It may have a bearing on the fact that you haven't had kids but I can't be sure.

The gynaecologist will be able to have a good look at the area when you have your hysteroscopy and be able to take a biopsy without you being aware of it.

The brown discharge that you have been getting is probably the results of the attempted biopsy and hopefully should settle down.

The NHS have written some information about what to expect when you have a hysteroscopy which you can see here

I do hope that you know more soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Hi, just ready your post and I'm very much the same as you. But I had mine under general in theatre yesterday feel a bit battered and bruised but taking things slow. I've posted to a nursing team on here as they said they found it difficult to get the biopsies as wall were very bloody. I'm menopausal.

  • I had that done a couple of months ago it was pure agony I would never have it again whilst awake ,unbelievably painful ,the girl had hold of my hand its a wonder I didn't break it and I found it hard to breathe but I got through it ,it took about an hour ,never again .

  • Thank you for your post. Feels bit better not just me x

  • How did you get through it! Fair play to you, so brave xx

  • It was hard and had it done Thursday and I'm back at work today, but still in pain and not feel right. But they said my womb lining was very bloody but they did get a little biopsies. Now got to wait 2 weeks. I'm just worried they won't find out anything and for me to be out of pain.
