  • Hi Anne,

I'm not a nurse but I have been a melanoma patient for many years and I didn't want your post to go unanswered whilst waiting for the nurses to return after Christmas.

You say you were diagnosed with a cancerous mole 3 years ago but it's never been removed? Who diagnosed it? Was it your GP but they failed to refer you to dermatology or was it a dermatologist and then your excision appointment has got lost in the system? Depending on which it is will depend on who you need to chase up. Meanwhile, to stop scratching it accidentally, I would either put E45 itch cream on the area or cover it with a large plaster.

  • Hello Anne and thanks for your post,

I would go and see your GP and ask their advice. If it was diagnosed as a cancerous growth there will have been some documentation as to how it was going to be treated.

There may have been photographs taken to show the original cancer. It may be helpful for you to take a picture of the area now particularly if your GP wants you to send them the picture. If you saw a dermatologist three years ago your GP may be able to refer you back.

I hope that you know more about your situation soon.

If you would like to ring and chat through this all with one of the helpline nurses then you are more then welcome to do so.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
