Mastectomy

Hi

I'm having surgery on 30th December. Has pre op yesterday. They asked lots of questions including about my teeth. I've just realised I didn't tell them about a broken tooth I have on the right upper side. It happens towards the end of the summer, and when I could get into the dentist they wouldn't do anything because I was having chemo.  It's not infected and I'm not in pain. It's not loose. Please please tell me the surgery will still go ahead once they see the tooth in my mouth?

  • Hiya, I think they only ask about your teeth in case any loose teeth or crowns come into contact with the thing that goes in your mouth when you're under anaesthetic. It could fall into your airway..might be wrong but I'm sure it won't prevent your surgery going ahead. Good luck with everything, hope it goes well

  • Phew! Thank you so much for the reply

Thank you. All happened quickly. Finished 12 weekly Chemo, due to start FEC on 19th December, saw the oncologist on the 14th and after taking I asked if that was the case why couldn't I just have the mastectomy sooner rather than waiting nine more weeks and having more chemo, and she said there was no reason and agreed ! The next day I had a call with the date of the 30th, wasn't expecting it that quick but am very happy it is.

  • Hello,

It looks like Jane has answered your question.  She is quite right it is likely that they are interested in it because of the breathing equipment they need to use while you are under anaesthetic.  just make sure you mention it to them once you are admitted.  I dont think this will delay your surgery.  I hope it all goes well.

    Take care
