Ashley

Hi a few days ago my gp took pics of what she thinks may be a bcc but not urgent so just got to wait. Its near to my eye so should I try and see if they can see me quicker because of its location? As far as I know its only been there 2 weeks

Anxiety through the roof. Also if I wanted to go private for quickness how do I go about it

Thank you

  • Hello Ashley and thank you for your post,

Perhaps wait now for next week to see if you hear anything. Most Basal Cell Carcinoma's (BCC) don't grow fast. It also needs to be biopsied or removed to definitely know what it is.

Suspected BCC's are not usually seen as quickly as the more serious form of skin cancer called melanoma.  Your GP would have put down the location of this on the referral to the dermatology team so they would decide how long you need to wait. You could check with them about your appointment but as I said perhaps wait until next week.

If you wanted to go privately then it might be a good idea to talk with one of the big private healthcare providers such as BUPA or Nuffield about how to do this. You may find that your GP will also know who you could go to privately too.

I hope this helps and you know what this is soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
