  • Hello and thanks for your post,

If your son has a heavy cold, it is probably a good idea to stop him coming in to close contact with your mum until he feels a bit better. I am not sure whether she is having any other treatment after her radiotherapy but it would be better for her if she did not get a cold. I can understand that if you are living with your mum it is difficult to try and isolate your son. Try and make sure that you wash your hands regularly especially if you are regularly wiping your son's nose.

If your mum is having radiotherapy as an outpatient then it is perfectly safe for your son to be near her when he has recovered from his cold. The charity Bowel CancerUK have produced some information on the different types of radiotherapy which you might find helpful to look at here.

I hope this is helpful. If you or your mum would like to ring and chat through this or anything else then you are more then welcome to give us a ring. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
