Smoking

I went to hosp today to see radiologist for the painful ulcers left in my mouth post radiotherapy, I've had these ulcers 11weekd now and can't swallow, The dr today asked me if I was smoking, I told him no and haven't touched a cigarette since sept 2021 he then said to me, are you sure, does anyone know why he would say this and doubt me. It's made me feel uncomfortable

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I can't say for sure why your doctor asked you twice if you were still smoking. But some doctors like to re-check with their patients that they are doing everything they should to recover from their cancer treatment.

People vary in the side effects they have from radiotherapy. I hope your doctor assessed you and prescribed something to help manage the pain and discomfort you are experiencing with your mouth ulcers.

We have some useful tips on our website on managing a sore mouth and throat which you can see here  and here.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
