Leg pain

Hello - my partner has pancreatic cancer which has also spread to the liver. He has been receiving chemo and since having this has had problems with his legs. His one foot is like a dropped foot and he has to swing it forward. We were told this is nothing to do with chemo. He now has very bad pain in both his thighs and has difficulty walking. He is taking Zapain but this is not touching the pain. Can someone tell me if this type of cancer can result in leg problems.

Thank you

Wellsy

  • Dear Wellsy and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your partner. This must be a difficult time for you both.

I am afraid I can't say what could be causing the pain in his legs. This assessment can really only be made by his doctors looking after him with the full knowledge of his  cancer and any scans that he may have had.

I am sorry to hear that his pain is not being well controlled. It is important that he is reporting back to his doctors if the medication is not properly controlling his pain. He may have a palliative/pain nurse and it would be worth getting their input. We do have some pages on our website on the different types of pain medication that his doctors may consider using which you can see here

We have some other tips that may help with the pain which you can see here

There is a charity called Pancreatic UK and you might find it helpful to get in touch with them for more advice. Have a look at their details here

I do hope that they manage to get on top of the pain. You are of course more then welcome to ring our helpline and speak to one of the nurses. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040. We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the Very Best,

    Catherine
