I am sorry to hear about your dad's situation and I do hope the doctors have a plan of treatment moving forward that will work for him.

Sometimes cancers do mutate and whilst this is rare with non Hodgkin's it can happen as you say.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone on here will be able to say if this will change your dad's overall outlook and it is important to ask these types of questions to his specialist team as they are in the best position to answer them.
