Stereotactic Radiotherapy

Hello, My dad has started stereotactic radiotherapy today on his lung I'm just wondering is it safe for him to see his grandchildren whilst having treatment.

Thank you

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

It should be fine for your dad to see his grandchildren while he is having stereotactic radiotherapy.  This will not make him radioactive and remember it is given as a outpatient so that means it is safe for him to go home.  If there was a concern about radioactivity then people having this would need to stay in a specialist lead lined room until it was safe for them to go home.

We have information about this type of radiotherapy and how it is given, you can see it on our website here

He can also ask his radiotherapy team when he goes for his next session about it too.

I hope this has helped. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
