Is getting biopsy results in person a bad thing?

I had a mole removed from the tip of my ear a few weeks ago. Both dermatologist and nurse that removed it said it looked like a BCC but it hard dark speckles in it so wanted to test it to be sure. This is the third time I've had mole removal and the last one was a BCC and they just sent results by post. Yesterday I got a letter with an appointment to see a nurse in dermatology and that was the only information. I obviously freaked out and rang them to see if I could get further info as my anxiety went through the roof. They said they weren't qualified to tell me what it said but it was to discuss biopsy results. They said someone more qualified would phone me but noone did...I'm convinced it's bad news if I have to go into hospital for results....anyone else had similar experience? Appointment is next Monday too which worries me its very soon...

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

How anyone is given their results is not relevant to what they will be.  Also, how results were given may have changed , even within the same team.

Please do not read anything into how and when you will get the results as it is likely to cause you added worry and distress.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • I think it depends on each trust and which department. I'm awaiting biopsy results and I've been told I will see my consultant in clinic to discuss results. However, on the report after my colonoscopy, my consultant had said 'await histology reports. Will see patient in clinic to discuss results' so I think it could just be a certain plan of action for certain NHS trusts. On the other hand, I had a letter from another test a few months ago with results saying everything was fine. My anxiety is through the roof as well just like yours so I do understand how you're feeling in that sense. I don't have my appointment date yet though. I hope everything will go ok on Monday!
