Chronic ear pain 5 months post radiotherapy. Please help

It's been 19 weeks since my last radiotherapy and 12 weeks of chronic pain in my right ear. I've had every opiad going, I've had patches up to 37mg I've now gone back on to oxycodone the last 4 days but once again the pain will not ease, it wakes me up at all hours and all I can do is lie on the sofa holding my ear. Can anyone think of anything  I can try, I'm on antidepressants and like I said tried everything

  • Hi Lynlou thank you for posting, and I'm so sorry you have been going through this.

It is difficult unfortunately for anyone else to give suggestions as we aren't part of the team caring for you,and anyone on the forum will have their own experiences individual to them.

I wonder if you have could be seen by a pain or symptom management specialist who can review you and make some suggestions. If you have the contact details of a specialist nurse (CNS) or someone from your hospital team do call them and ask about a referral. Some pains, like nerve pain, can respond to different families of painkillers. It might be that you need a different type of medication, alongside the opiate, but a specialist would know this and advise accordingly.

Please do speak to someone in your care team as soon as you can to try and get things more comfortable.

Take care and if you find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
