Chemo bowels

I have HER2+ breast cancer. I had my first dose of docetaxal and the first injection of pertuzumab and trastuzumab last Wednesday, for my second round of therapy, after three doses of EC in the first round. I've had the usual fatigue etc., but not much nausea. Instead I've had crippling heartburn/indigestion which has really affected my ability to eat and drink. Last night I spent half the night on the toilet whilst my bowels completely exploded. This morning the same thing has just happened but it was mainly a pink tinged jelly-like mucus. Should I be contacting my chemo team about this or just wait for this to pass as simply another side effect?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Yes, do let your chemotherapy team know at the hospital. They can prescribe medication to help with this, such as a stomach antacid and capsules to help with loose bowel motions, and it is important for them to know what side effects you have experienced. It means if you have medication to help, then your experience should be better after your next course of treatment.

I hope that you are able to get help with this soon.

    Wishing you the best,

    Vanda
