GP acting weird after blood test and X-ray

I have had issues with my leg (previously tested for bone cancer but thankfully didn't have it) for many years and it's gotten a lot worse recently which I posted about a while ago. I finally got a GP to listen to my concerns and he ordered an X-ray and blood test which I had at the beginning of this month.

The weird part. I had a phone call the day after my blood test from an unknown number which I missed and they didn't leave a voicemail. So I forgot about it until today when the GP receptionist phoned and said that the GP has tried to contact me but he wants to discuss my test results with me personally. He is away until next week and she urged me to make a phone appointment for next week rather immediately which I did. Now I'm concerned. The GP has been very upfront about testing for the  possibility of bone cancer (or a similar one I guess) as I have had a growth on my bone in the past. I have never had blood test results ready the day after the appointment and never had the GP ask to make an appointment rather immediately. The receptionist couldn't give info but as I said it seems like it was trying to be rushed.

If it was anything bad they would have contacted me before waiting 7-10 days after I first missed their call right? And I wouldn't have to wait a week to talk for the GP after that right? Could this be something to be concerned about or am I just over thinking? I don't want to be stressed thinking about this for the next week.

  • Hello and thanks for our post,

I can understand how frustrating this must be for you and I am afraid that there is very little that I can tell you.

GP's and nurses don't tend to leave messages on phones as they are often unsure who is going to get the message and the receptionist is not allowed to give any results good or bad over the phone.

There maybe any number of reasons as to why the doctor has tried to get hold of you including perhaps saying that you need more tests. Try if you can not to overthink it all until you have more information and keep yourself distracted so you don't think about it all the time.

I hope that you know more next week and you are of course more then welcome to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses.

We are here Monday  to Friday 9am to 5pm and our number is 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
