Thickened endometrial lining

Hi

After an ultrasound scan, I have been told that my endometrium measures 5.7mm. Due to this I have been referred to gynaecology and am worried sick.

I am also worried about the tests and how painful they may be. I am post menopausal and only presented due to a bacterial vaginal infection that has now cleared with antibiotics.

Has anyone had anything similar or can tell me what to expect?

Thank you

  • Hi, did they do the biopsy and found it was polyps ? I had a biopsy but don't know if a polyp was removed as it just biopsy taken, since the surgery though after ten days of bleeding I have had no bleeding at all and for four months I was bleeding on and off every few days , so seems something was removed , it also feels like something has been removed, my stomach is flat again and I could feel a lumpy line where the pain was before the surgery , I still have a bit of pain in that area and it is three weeks today since hysteroscopsy . I have an ovarian cyst also which is supposed to be rescanned this month , the geanocologist said if there is no change he is discharging me with that .

I feel like I am in the twilight zone these past five months as nothing seems to be straight forward or simple to understand . I'm exhausted from lack of sleep and streesed which is understandable like we all are .

Oh to be a woman eh , men don't know what we truly go through x

  • Hi, you are in control of all this remember, and if you have no symptoms , personally if it were me I would also want to just monitor this . You can suggest this too . Your body , your choice .

I hope you are okay and that you are just monitored or discharged . They will usually say if any problems to contact them which is reassuring . I did that as i didn't want a biopsy as i was too scared , I had a uterine biopsy when I was 25 without any anesthetic and i passed out , they do it differently these days , but I was scared and refused, I was offered GA which I refused also , but after three months of bleeding on and off I rang up and asked if I could have GA to have the hysterscopy , they were very quick and I had it done withing two weeks of my call , I was treated so well they were amazing i felt so cared for . I actually am not scared of GA now its was nothing , the only slight sharp pain was canula going in my hand and then I woke up in recovery , being cared for by dedicated lovely staff which I am very appreicative of .

Tomorrow I will know what the results are , hoping of course for the all clear, but whatever I will deal with it .

Lots of love to you x

  • Hi.    I had bleeding so booked in for a smear the nurse found a growth on my cervix ..She called the doctor in and he said we are putting you on the 2 week pathway ..I had ultra scan first and my thickness was 14 ..I was examined and it was found to be a polyop i large one .At the same time i had a 4 quad biopsy on my cervix and the pollyop was taken away to be tested ..My gyno doc wanted me to have a mri as well so i did a few days later ..Also she wanted a biopsy of my womb lining ...Hence the op because my cervix was closed ..on having the op i was found to have 2 more polyops in my womb these where taken out and tested i had my womb lining scrapped out used to be called a DnC.  I Did bleed alot after ..But after a few days it stopped ..Stomach did feel tender for weeks ..

A couple of weeks later i had the all clear ...This was in feb this year ..No problems at the mo fingers crossed ...I hope this helps to Explain my stomach is also flatter ...

  • Thank you for your lovely reassuring message, it is greatly appreciated.

I will stick to my guns.......if it's not broken, leave it alone scenario.

I will keep everything crossed for you tomorrow, good luck and sending healing vibes.

    Lots of love x

  • Thank you for your reply. So glad everything is all okay now and everything came back clear for you.

I haven't any symptoms at all and think my GP is referring to be on the safe side. I think I will just ask to be monitored and have another scan in a few months, unless things change of course.

Fingers crossed that you stay problem free now.

    Take care x

  • Hi, you are welcome , you said the exact saying i was thinking , and thank you for your kind words and wishes for me today . I shall post back with my result. Whatever comes of it I deal with it .

Bless you and seding best wishes back to you too x

  • Hi, I get my results today , glad yours was good and it was polyps , did it stop the bleeding having them removed ?

I was bleeding for four months every few days , and after the hysteroscopy and biopsy I bled for 10 days , now no bleeding for 11 days which is a good sign.

The day after the hysterscopy I had a stinking cold and cough and the cough caused so much pain in my womb from the procedure, i think it delayed healing . Then a few days later I got a cold sore on my tongue and inside my nose , I felt rotten , but now I am feeling a lot better . Just praying for a good result today .

I'm so happy for you I really am x
