I am sorry to hear about your husband's situation and appreciate you have questions.

We have some information about e cigarettes here and here and generally speaking at this point in time they are thought to be safer than smoking and there is no real evidence at the moment to suggest that these cause cancer.

It is usually difficult to know exactly what has caused a particular persons cancer as most are sporadic and just happen over their lifetime. You can however read what we do know about thyroid cancer risks and causes here.
