endometrial biopsy results by letter or appointment ?

I had an endometiral biopsy on 21November , got a text today saying I have an appointment next Tuesday 13 December at the hospital , I'm confused though because I am also due an ultrasound scan in December also to check an ovarian cyst .

Do we normally get an appointment for results or are they by letter through the post ?

Thanks .

  • Hello and thanks for your further post

I'm sorry you are waiting some biopsy results and appreciate this must be an anxious time for you.

Usually patients are told at the appointment when and how they will receive the test results. But they usually come by letter, a telephone call or a face to face appointment.

I hope this helps. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene

  • I got my biopsy results by letter but they can be an in person appointment too. Is your text a reminder or simply say that you've got an appointment next week? Last time I got a text about an appointment it was before the actual letter arrived telling me what the appointment was for.

My journey is still running in parallel to yours. My surgery to remove fibroids was postponed to february and I'm awaiting appointments for another womb biopsy and an ultrasound to check on ovarian cysts (six month follow ups to original tests and scans)

  • Hi, My phone was playing up on Thursday couldn't ring out , I got a text to yesterday to accept the appointment via pin number , then when I checked my phone I had a message and it was to offer the appointment and to call to confirm, but I'd already done that on the web link via pin number .

I am due a an ultrasound scan around this date , the internal one ,so wondering whether that will be one at the same time and I get my results .

I really don't want the internal scan as it caused me so much pain in August , I still feel very tender down there from the hysteroscopy and biopsy, the good news is that I am not bleeding now and this is 7 days , before the procedure I was bleeding every other three to four days, I also could feel a lump in my womb from the outside on my lower area , that has gone . Before the hysteroscopy the geonocoogist  said I was showing all the signs of a polyp , so I hope this is what was done and why I have stopped bleeding now . I did bleed for 12 days afterwards and it started to worry me , but something did feel didfferent in there .

SInce the internal ultrasound though the cyst now hurts , its on and off and it didn't hurt before that procedure and I never knew I had one until the scan showed it was there .

The geanocologist said if there is no change in this scan he is discharging me from that .

It's just a worry waiting and then with the face to face appointment has made me nervous .

I hope you get the surgery doen and that's it for that issue ,and the cyst I hope that shrinks too :)

  • Hi thanks for the reply, I am due an ultrasound scan around this date so wondering if they are doing that at the same time and giving results of biopsy?

I shall know on Tuesday for sure .

  • Hello and thanks for getting back to us again,

I am afraid I can't say whether you will have an ultrasound on the same day but you could try calling the gynacology secretary to see if you can find out more information.

I do hope that it all becomes clear for you soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
