Really anxious about Brother's screening tests

I was wondering if anyone can just help me through this difficult time. My brother had a CT scan as he had swollen groin lymph nodes and was very anaemic - they have now called him back for an urgent MRI of his Pelvis and Back.  Is it likely they have seen a tumor or is it because the CT scan wasn't clear enough to distinguish?

  • Hi,

I've had mri, ultrasound and ct scans, and having a curious, technical and inquisitive mind, I ask many questions. From what I've learned, ct is a type of x-ray, good for sectional images, where mri is more useful for a 3d image, and gives a better all round idea of what they are looking at. They will use one to clarify the other, and help build a more thorough understanding of what is going on.

They will pull together all the test and imaging results to build a more complete understanding of what is going on with your brother, and decide on the best way forward for him.

    I hope this helps you

  • Thank you so much and all the best for your journey - hope it all goes as well as it can.

  • You're welcome, glad to be of help.

I've had the tests and scans and surgery etc, just waiting for the answers to my situation now.

I hope all goes as well as it can for you and yours.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your brother's situation and I can appreciate you are worried about him.

An MRI sees the inside of the body differently than a CT scan does and is particularly good at looking at soft tissue and nerves, it is often used if there is a problem with the back. So, yes perhaps the CT did not give much information but hopefully the MRI will. It does not necessarily mean that they saw a tumour.

I realise that this could be worrying and waiting for scans and the results can be difficult so I hope you and your brother will be okay.
