Squamous Cell Cancer

Hi

I have just finished my chemo/radiotherapy treatment last Friday.  I spent last week in hospital with a urine and skin infection, quite traumatic.  I'm on day 6 after treatment, the skin in between the tops of my legs and beneath my sacrum are red raw and weeping.

I'm using Octenisan as prescribed by the hospital then applying Flaminal Hydro, the Flaminal Forte Gel cream and I'm still in agony, but is there anything else that can sooth it.  It is still so sore to pee, and have had diarrhoea for 5 days which is adding to the soreness  I literally have 4 baths a day, sometimes at 3am just fir a period of respite from the constant pain.  Any advice would be really welcome.  Thank you

  • Hello there

I am so sorry to hear about your situation, it sounds like you are having quite a rotten time of it at the moment but hopefully you will turn a corner for the better soon.

To be honest it sounds like you are doing all you can at the moment but I would suggest speaking to your own team and letting them know the pain and discomfort you are still in despite the lotions and potions to see if they can suggest or prescribe anything else.

I assume you are also taking pain killers as well to try and take the edge off. If you are and these aren't helping do ask your doctor for something stronger just until things start to ease.

Different radiotherapy departments can slightly vary in their advice about caring for skin during and after radiotherapy so it is best to speak to your own treatment centre to make sure you are doing the right things.

We have some information here that may be useful for you to read but do bear in mind radiotherapy continues to work after the treatment has finished and it can take a couple of weeks for things to start settling down.

I wish you all the best and hope you are feeling much better very soon. Do get back in touch if you have more questions or you are welcome to call the nurses on 0808 800 4040 Monday-Friday 9-5 if you prefer.

    Look after yourself,

    Naomi
