Worried about a lump

Hi , I have had a round lump at back of neck for over 4 years. When the doctor checked it he said it's a cyst. It's still there now though , it's movable and under skin and is round. I am really worried it's lymphoma :( it's not painful and they said it's a cyst 4 years ago but would that still be there now after that long

Hi just read your post about the lump on the back.of your neck.  You say you was told it was a cyst 4 years ago ,and are asking if it  waa a cyst if it would still be there now.

The answer to that is yes,if its a cyst it could be there for years. It also depends what type of cyst it is,as I know there are many  different types.

If its bothering you ,or getting bigger ,( you didn't say if it had got bigger, or remains the same size after having it there for 4 years) if its getting bigger and troublesome I'd go back to your gp ,and ask if you could be refferd to a consultant who could take a look at it ,and maybe remove it.

I had a cyst on my scalp yes ago,I had it removed  as was getting bigger, and made me look as if I had a bald spot on top of my head, where it was growing and making my scalp stretch. I've also got a cyst in my breast  found after a yearly check on the breast I had cancer on,but was told it was so small ,and nothing needed to be done about it so it's still there.

But my advice to you  is if its bothering you ,keep going back to your gp,and say its bothering you ,and youd like something done about it.  Good luck with evetything, do let us know how you get on.

  • Hello and Thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you have these concerns about a lump that you have in your neck. As you say a doctor has assessed you before and diagnosed a cyst, but if you are still worried do make another appointment with your GP to talk this through.

What I can say is if the doctor had been concerned about lymphoma 4 years ago they would have investigated further at the time.

Take care and I hope you know more soon.

    Sarah.
