Palpations after double mastectomy.

Hi all,

Im two weeks post elective double mastectomy. I still have drains in, although I'm ready to have the lm out tomorrow. Recovery was hard and I was admitted for 5 days and on morphine. A few days after coming home I started to have palpations, at first I thought it was because of the medications and it would pass in a few days. It hasn't stopped and tonight it seems much worse, I also feel quite anxious.

Should I be worried ? Is this normal after a big op?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to have not got back to you sooner but do let your team know how you are feeling at your appointment today, when you have your drains removed.

Symptoms can come on for lots of different reasons which is why it is important to get anything unusual checked out after an operation or procedure, just to be on the safe side.

Surgery can sometimes affect a persons heart beat although this usually returns to normal after a little while. However as I say do speak to your doctor today so they can assess you properly.

Try not to overly worry though, it sounds like you have had quite a tough couple of weeks and your body is still recovering and repairing itself, so be kind to yourself.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Thank you, I mentioned it today with the breast care nurse. I'm going to monitor it for a few days and let them know how it is on Thursday. I'll keep you posted. ️
