KRAS mutation shown upon Biopsy after Lobectomy

Hi everyone. I had half my right lung removed due to a small nodule suddenly begin to increase in size. It was adenocarcinoma and they removed it completely with no trace in Lymph nodes. I was told I didnt need any chemo . I belatedly received a Lab report which mentions KRAS mutation. and described my tumour as Cat 1(b)  My surgeon was not interested in commenting ( he had done his job very well!) i have read that KRAS does not respond to any  treatment but I dont know if I am at higher risk of it returning ? Sorry to be so verbal !  I aslo have quite bad lower back pain and in the upper abdomen, 10 months after surgery

    Firstly, I think if these pains in your upper abdomen and lower back are persisting you should mention them to your GP, they may well have nothing to do with the lung cancer - pains in these areas are common and can have a number of causes - but it is always a good idea to get checked things like this out. Hopefully your GP will be able to give you some peace of mind.

    I am not quite sure what the category 1(b) refers to, it could be the tumour size or the overall cancer stage (which is a combination of tumour size, lymph node status and whether the cancer has spread), but either way the number 1 infers an early stage cancer which is good. 

    I wouldn't have thought that the KRAS mutation means your cancer is much more likely to come back - I have read that the presence of a KRAS mutation doesn't appear to have much of an effect on overall survival in people with early stage non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). An adenocarcinoma is a type of NSCLC. 

    Perhaps if you ever had a lung cancer specialist nurse you could ask them too.

    Many thanks for your helpful reply. Unfortunately my doctor has no interest whatsoever in having my back or side checked out. I have given up on that now and may have to try to go private. I have tried physio, acupuncture and now Chiropractic, but so far, nothing has helped. ( the xrays taken for Chiropractor showed some sort of issue around my lower back but he was a littlevague about the exact issue there .) I cannot accept just yet that i could not have some medical investigation as it is hard enough to manage ! I had my 6 monthly CT scan last week, so will hopefully be seeing the original consultant who referred me for treatment in mid January so I will try to glean more onfo or try to get some sort of referral from him . Thank you again
