Hello there and thank you for posting
I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis, this is understandably a difficult time for you with so much to take in.
Most people will go through a series of different emotions when diagnosed with cancer so the way you are feeling is very normal, do share how you are feeling with your family, friends and the doctors and nurses involved in your care, so they can best support you.
Cancer is not selective and it can unfortunately affect anyone at any point in their life. Whilst lifestyle can sometimes play a part in the development of some types of cancer it can still occur in the healthiest of individuals as well, I'm afraid to say.
There is information here about coping with cancer that may be useful for you to read, so do take a look.
Do get back in touch if you wish to or have questions or on the other hand you are welcome to call the nurse helpline on 0808 800 4040 weekdays 9-5.
All the best
Naomi
Hi Wes,
I went through exactly the same emotion when I was told.in September last year. I'm 40, married with 2 young children. It's hard to get your head around. Only advise I can offer is don't be afraid to talk to people around you. Tell them how your feeling. Having the support of my wife made this whole process a little easier. Probably doesn't help much. I'm here if you ever want to chat
Thanks for the reply, had an horrible time with water infections due to the catheter being left in too long after the operation but thats a story for another day !
Got my first follow up appointment since my operation tomorrow, hopefully it'll be good news and they'll tell me that it hasn't spread to anywhere else. So understandably I'm a little anxious
That's understandable, fingers crossed it's positive news for you.
Do any of you get pain in your other kidney I'm 6 weeks after my op and I'm getting pain hoping it's just the other kidney getting used to things but can't seem to get a definitive answer on the Web any help much appreciated and Hope you are doing well.
I had mine removed 12th December, and to be honest I can honestly say that yes I can feel a difference but I wouldn't say I had any pain. Hopefully I'd like to say it's just your body adapting
Yea I'm thinking that too thanks for the reply, are you having any follow up I've been referred to cancer hospital for another ct and possibly chemo to make sure theyve got everything thanks for the reply btw
Thankfully I was graded as a level 3 meduim risk which means there is a low risk of it coming back and it hasn't spread. So I haven't had to have any further treatment.
I just have to go back every year for a scan and check up.
Great news I'm a 4 so similar but they want to give me some chemo just to make sure thanks for the reply appreciate it.
Brilliant news, best of luck.
