Do I - don’t I ????

Hi all,  only just found this forum.  My story in a nutshell, had a slight cough every morning - went to docs, got referred to fast track lung cancer team (bit shocking) after a barrage of various scans turns out I have lung cancer.  The chemo began on 22nd Nov with dosage at 100%.  Next is 13th Dec.

question - do I use the shop bought (don't go to hairdressers) root touch up before 13th? Seeing as chemo was two weeks ago and left my body now?  I'm predominantly having Radio therapy and not chemo, so I don't know what to do.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I think as a general rule we would advise patients to avoid using dyes or even touch ups during chemotherapy and for at least 6 months afterwards. It may be okay to use a henna natural product but it is worth testing it before you use it properly. Hair maybe much more sensitive to hair dyes whilst you are having chemotherapy. Have a look on our website about using hair dye here

It is probably best to wait and talk it through with your lung nurse or your doctor at your next appointment. Even though it is two weeks since you have had your chemotherapy, drugs can remain in your body. A lot of course will depend on the type of drugs you have had. You could also talk it through with a pharmacist at your local chemist.

You have posted in 'ask the nurses'  you may find that if you post in another section that you may get more responses.

You are of course more then welcome to ring and chat to one of the helpline nurses. We are here Monday to Friday,9am to 5pm. Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
