Worried that I have ovarian cancer

Hi,

i am a 26 year old female and had my second baby last year. After the birth everything seemed fine but I have continued to bleed continuously since that time. Occasionally it got so bad I was going to attend A&E. I spoke to a gp who done a cervical screening which came back clear, they put me on tranexamic acid for the bleeding (which helps but does not take it away completely) and referred me to gynaecology. It took months but I finally managed to get 2 womb biopsy's done - the gynaecologist seems to think it is a hormonal problem so I chose to have a Mirena coil fitted to hopefully help with this. I just have a gut feeling that something is not right with my body, I feel so drained all the time and have began to get random pain in my legs (which could be totally unrelated but still worrying).

The gynaecologist said she would refer me for an ultrasound to rule out fibroids/polyps and 'things' but it could take up to a year! because it's non urgent. I am very worried about it as the bleeding has still continued. Have yet to hear about the womb biopsy results too.

should I call my GP about my concerns?

thanks

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the bleeding and about the pain in your legs you have now. I can appreciate your concern.

Be reassured that so far no test or investigation has indicated you have cancer. I know you are waiting for the biopsy of your womb, so hopefully you will not wait too much longer.

You have been seen by a gynaecologist who is not concerned you have cancer, which is good. If you do have concerns about any symptoms you have in-between appointments (and you can't wait to be seen) then do discuss them with your GP.

Before going to your GP you might want to see how the mirena coil goes, I say this because it might take a few weeks for you to see a benefit. Also remember that if your biopsy result comes back with a result that means you need to be seen earlier then this will be done for you.

I hope this has helped. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
