CIN1 but symptoms?

Hello,

So, for a while now I've been getting bleeding during and after sex which has slowly turning into bleeding between period and pretty much constant cramping. I was offered a smear and that came back as normal but referred to a specialist to look further.  On examination they found abnormal looking cells and took a biopsy which came back as Cin1. This has left me a little confused though as everything I've read states that this is usually asymptomatic. Doctor has said its all likely to be hormonal and offered me the coil and  cryotherapy to treat it.

I am currently waiting for a hysteroscopy and my health anxiety is running wild and I'm convinced something is going off further up causing the bleeding.

Just wondering if my symptoms can infact be caused by the CIN1 and possibly cervical ectropion or if it's more likely to be something else?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

An abnormal cervical smear doesn't usually cause symptoms.

Bleeding after sex and in between periods can have a number of different causes which you can read on the NHS website by clicking here and here.

So, your heavy bleeding symptoms could be related to different gynaecological conditions, such as fibroids, polyps. cervical ectropian or a hormone imbalance. It sounds as if your GP has taking your symptoms seriously as he has referred you to have further tests.

Although it's possible you may have an ectropion. This is where the cells normally found on the inside of the cervix, are on the outside, making the cervix red and quite delicate, bleeding easily. It is very common and you can read more about this link.  But until your test results are known no one can tell you anymore for now. I hope everything turns out to be okay.
