Vein like structure running up from epididymis

Hi there . Recently I was rushed into hospital with extreme pain in the testicles/scrotal area that radiates through to the lower back and pelvic area . Upon physical examination a specialist claimed it sounds like an infection and put me on a 2 week course of doxycycline. I'm nearing the end of my course of antibiotics and the pain has massively eased up but a dull pain still occurs and sometimes a burning sensation in the back / scrotum . Upon examining my testicles again I've noticed a vein like structure running up from the tail of the epididymis and what feels like a soft spot . It's hard to tell if it's a lump or not and I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not . I've been for sti testing to rule out epididymitis via sti infection and I came back clear . Could this be a tumour. Do tumours always result in a lump ? I'm going to speak to a doctor today to get checked once again and explain that the pain still hasn't fully cleared up . Just not sure if I should be worried or not .

  • Hello and thank you for your enquiry. I was sorry to read that you are worried about your testicles.

We always advise that when you have concerns about your testicle, to make an appointment with your GP who can advise you further, and hopefully reassure you. They will refer you for an ultrasound scan if they think this is necessary.

Most testicle lumps and bumps are easily explained, and are not anything serious. Testicular cancer is in fact very uncommon.

There is some useful information on the NHS websites on what testicles should feel and look like here

and there is information on testicle lumps and swellings at this link

I hope you find this helpful.

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
