Worried with endometrial polyps

Hi all,

just a bit worried and I don't know why that my polyps are cancerous

had them out Friday by general and still feel a bit washed out

my question was though does anyone know is it likely to be cancer?

I had three large polyps taken out. My symptoms were four days of spotting about a month ago and lower pelvic pain with the spotting. Nothing since. I'm 63 and had my menopause about 20 years ago.

I also had a polyp and fibroid removed in May 2020.

  • I think a very small percentage are cancer , I'm actually waiting for biopsy result from my procedure last monday.

I was down for polypectomy , on the form after the procedure it just said biopsy .

I was hoping it was a polyp , my friend had a biopsy taken and it came back as a polyp benign .

  • Hello and thank you for post.

I think if there was a concern that you could have cancer your gynaecologist would have said this to you. Also it is likely that anything removed will be checked out by a pathologist and if there is cancer there you will be told.

In your follow up appointment you will have a chance to discuss this with your doctor. I'm afraid that no one can say how many polyps turn out to be cancer however I think it is safe to say that most will not.

I hope you start to feel better after surgery.  Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
