Feeling of lump at neck over 12 months

Hi all, I have been having a feeling of lump at my neck and it has been like this for over a year now. Few months back GP prescribed me acid reflux medication but nothing changed. Since the last two days, the feeling has increased so much that when swallowing food, some of it stays stuck at the throat. Also a slight pain, almost negligible. I've been extremely scared and filled a form to get GP appointment for next week. Could this be cancer - oesophageal/tonsil/larynx? I'm not experiencing any other symptoms, just a bit of fatigue.

Wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and could advise any next steps. Super scared these days...

  • Hello Sashnox and thanks for posting,

Making an appointment with your GP is the best way to find out whatever is causing this feeling. Don't assume cancer is the only possibility, there are likely to be a number of explanations for your symptoms so try and keep an open mind. Acid reflux can cause lost of throat problems so this could still explain things.

The GP can make an assessment, do a physical examination and decide if any tests are needed or if you need to be referred to the hospital.  I don't know what the GP will want to do.

I appreciate that when ongoing symptoms are a reminder, it is hard not to dwell on them, but try and keep an open mind and don't over think things. A lot of people with unexplained health worries turn to the internet to look for answers, we generally advice against it as it can cause more worry without leaving you any the wiser. Try and distract yourself as much as you can.

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over, the number to call is  Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around from 9-5, weekdays.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
