Anxious cervical scan

Hello.

I'd like to know if anyone has been through the same thing and how it turned out or the likeliness of this becoming cancer.

I am 31 and I have two children, my youngest is only a year old.

I have been having heavy periods, backache, pain during sex with nausia , adominal pain and a musky water like discharge. I have also experienced a lot of nausia lately

I went to the doctors where she spotted two polyps and scar tissue. When she pressed on my tummy it was really painful in a few places.

I haven't stopped thinking about it since, I read that polyps are mostly benign but it's still a terrifying experience.

I've been doing as much research as I can but I can't help but be scared.

I have an internal pelvic scan on the 2nd, blood tests and an ultrasound soon to be booked in.

Can they tell you straight away if they notice something malignant or will I be waiting weeks to find out?

  • Hello Georgieb and thanks for posting,

I am not sure how much light  people's stories will shed on your own situation - things can vary from person to person. But as you already know, it is rare for a cervical polyp to turn out to be cancer so this would be very unlikely.

Symptoms can occur for lots of reasons and looking on line to try and work out what might be the matter often makes people worry more. If you can, try not to and distract yourself instead.

Sometimes scans come back clear and sometimes they show something that needs further testing to be sure what it going on. Generally if there is any thing to raise a suspicion of cancer, tests are done as quickly as possible to rule it out, but it can take several weeks for all the results to come back to provide the full picture.  I'm afraid I can't say for sure how long it could take for you.

Waiting for tests and results is seldom easy. I hope you know more soon. Try and keep an open mind for now.
