Fluid filled cyst found after treatment for ovarian cancer

Hi,

I recently finished treatment for stage one ovarian cancer. I had a hysterectomy (ovaries were removed too) and 6 rounds of chemo (carboplatin). Once the chemo was finished I had a ct scan.

I saw my oncologist recently for the results of the ct scan. The scan shows that there is a fluid filled cyst in my pelvis. My ca125 has raised slightly since they last tested it but it is still within normal range (it's currently 27). My oncologist is going to ring me next week once they have discussed the cyst. Obviously I am feeling quite worried and have wondered whether this could be the start of a recurrence of my cancer.

Has anybody been in a similar position to this?

  • Hi T1ana and thanks for posting,

It sounds like you are having a worrying time at the moment.

It's understandable that you would feel anxious, while you're waiting to speak to your oncologist.  Some people find that keeping themselves busy can help.  It normal to feel like this.  We do have some information here about ways to deal with these feelings and place to find support.

You have posted in the 'Ask the nurses' section of Cancer Chat, you may find that other people share their experiences if you post in another section, but remember that although people may share similar experiences, everyone is different and can have different outcomes.

I hope this is helpful, please get in touch again if you need any more information or support.  Some people find it useful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Rachel
