Melonoma

Hello their

I have had a very suspicious mole for a while,  to cut a long story short, I was referred to the dermatology department, where the Doctor inspected the mole and told me just from looking at it that it is a melonoma., i did double check with him by saying "so it's deffinatly a melonoma" to which he replied yes. I then had the mole removed 4 days later, after they removed the mole they asked me to book an appointment for 6 weeks time to get my results. 6 weeks is a long time, This was nearly 3 weeks ago now. And I am quite anxious, am I right in thinking no news is good news, and if anything was wrong they would call me in sooner?.. also do you think he could have been mistaken and maybe it wasn't a melonoma.

Thank you

Jenny

  • Hello there Jenny and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate this must be a worrying time for you.

Waiting for results can be unsettling for people, but keeping busy and the mind on other things can sometimes help pass the time.

Unfortunately no one here can say what is going on with this mole and it will only be the pathology results that can say what this is.

Dermatologists are very experienced at assessing this types of things and it sounds like they were suspicious by what they could see. However they also will be relying on the results to confirm what is actually going on and what the next steps may involve.

It is impossible to read too much into the timings i'm afraid and as the hospital told you to book an appointment for follow up 6 weeks later it is unlikely you will hear anything sooner.

I hope everything is okay for you but do get back if you wish to or give us a buzz on 0808 800 4040 weekdays 9-5 if you prefer.

    Take care

    Naomi
