Lung Cancer

My wife Ella was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in May 14 which led to her having a lumpectomy & a tumour in the lung.

Having had 3 different chemo drugs we know none of them have worked hence her future is such she may not be here much longer. But still she has been offered another chemo drug in tablet form which she can start taking next month.

Now wondering if hormone thereapy is something she should consider? Would appreciate any suggestions or advice from those you have been on a similar journey to the one Ella is on.

Kind wishes. David.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am very sorry to hear about your wife's situation and appreciate what a difficult time this must be for you both.

Unfortunately as we aren't doctors or involved in your wife's care we cannot recommend treatment options for people.

Your wife's team are the best people to speak to as they know all about her cancer type and what is or isn't possible.

All breast cancers are different and therefore the treatment needed will be unique to every patient. Some breast cancers are hormone sensitive so are driven by hormones such as oestrogen or progesterone and in these situations hormonal treatments will usually be recommended. If the breast cancer is negative to hormones these treatments I'm afraid will be of no use to a patient and other treatments will be used instead.

It seems the doctors are planning on trying another oral chemotherapy so it is good there is something on offer. Do try and sit down with them to find out if there are other options after that. Some people also like to ask about clinical trials as well, so perhaps think about asking about these as well.

Others on the forum may also pop on here to share their stories but as I say everyone's cancer is different so whilst one treatment may be good for one person it won't be for everyone.

Do get back in touch again if you need to.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
