Child has testicular lump

Hi

my son aged 12 was admitted to hospital for testicular pain. He had an op to discount torsion but the surgeon found a lump in his right testicle. He has had an ultrasound on the day and the images sent to Evelina. The nurse who came to take his bloods the next day mentioned that Evalina had looked at the ultrasound and it's most likely benign. We have just been told to attend great ormand street for an ultrasound on Monday. Is this normal? We are a bit worried that it could now be serious if we need to go there. He has no symptoms etc.

  • Hello Gt9915 and thanks for posting,

I can appreciate how unsettling this this been, but try not to over think it and bear in mind what the nurse said. This scan appointment at Great Ormond Street could just be routine and have something to do with the way children's services are configurated in London. Perhaps Great Ormond Street has different sonography scanning equipment and this is why the doctors have asked for a scan there. The doctors are probably being thorough which is no bad thing.

It is worth saying that testicular cancer is very rare in a chid of your son's age so it would be an unlikely reason for the lump.

I realise that having to waiting can be worrisome, try not to read anything into this appointment and hold your nerve.

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over, our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,
