Ca125 blood test..ovarian cancer

Hello

I recently saw my GP with ovary concerns, she wanted to do a internal scan and a blood test called "ca125"  I had both tests on Wedneaday, they said my scan was completely normal, left ovary slightly bigger than the right but nothing of concern. Today I had my blood result back and it measures as a "18" I've stayed away from the internet during this process as I was scared of what I would find so I'm not familiar with this test and my gp didn't explain what the results would mean, can someone please explain what my result means please if anyone knows. I do have a follow up appointment next week with my doctor but I'm slightly concerned about this test.

Many thanks xx

  • Hi, From my understanding your CA125 is normal , anything under 35 I believe . I hope someone with more knowledge comes along who can varify this .

  • My intial CA125 result was given in writing as normal, 19.1. When discussing results with GP he said under 35 is considered normal. With nothing found on the scan and a normal CA125  I don't think your appointment with your doctor next week will be anything bad

  • Hello and thanks for your post

The CA125 is a protein found in blood and as other forum users have posted. anything under 35 is considered normal. You can read more about the CA 125 test by clicking here

If the CA125 level was raised, it usually indicates that there is some sort of inflammation in the pelvic area. Your level was within the normal range and as your ultrasound scan was also normal it is very likely that your doctor won't need to do any further investigations.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
