Painful armpit

Hi,

I have recently found an area of my armpit to be really tender and sometimes it aches and is painful, its on my left side and sometime i feel a little twinge/uncomfortable if i am leaning on my left.

I have had a feel around, no sign of any swelling or any bumps or anything, just very fleshy with some tissues of sorts (I say that because it doesnt feel inflamed, hard or like a lump/bump at all).

Sometimes I get a bit of an ache/pain high in the chest, above my nipple and maybe a bit more central, but again thats not that often, if I press it sometimes I get bit of a pain, but that feels more muscular and boney rather than chest pain.

I have noticed the armpit pain more last couple of days, i was going to the gym regularly until about 4 weeks ago, since then ive just been playing football on Mondays and Monday night felt quite bad....during physical activity dont feel anything, but the chest pain probably been around for a few months (I had Covid in Feb and if anything i started feeling it after this)

I have had sort of mild like flu symptoms recently, but nothing too heavy.

Reading stuff it has suggested its either a viral infection (lymph nodes) but I cant feel anything inflamed.

Its a sports injury, but I havent really done anything too heavy recently

Or its something to do with the lungs.

I am type 2 diabetic on metformin/ramipril and Atorvastatin

I know I should probably see ny GP and will arrange to do so, but just getting anxious before that!

  • Hello and thank you for your enquiry. I'm afraid as nurses we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone what the matter may be. We usually advise if people have concerns about a change in their body or a new symptoms to get it checked out by a doctor. Most of the time these things have a straightforward medical explanation, and are not anything serious.

But it makes sense to get checked out by your GP, for peace of mind.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
