Spotting

Hi. I have HPV with abnormal cells. I had coloscopy, no sign of cancer. I am spotting very ofter, and can take weeks for the spotting to go away. I do feel like sharp pain in my vagina, but not all the time. It comes and goes. Any advice would be apprisiated. Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

A little bit of spotting after a colposcopy is expected but if it is carrying on for a while it is probably a good idea to make an appointment with your GP, so they can examine you. You may find that if you are having pain in your vagina that you may have an infection but of course I can't be sure.

It is good to hear that you have had a colposcopy and any abnormal cells were treated.

I hope you manage to make an appointment soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you Catherine.

    Thank you for your replay.

I wasn't exactly clear. I ment to say, I have spotting often, and it's not because of coloscopy. I had it before too, and since I had my coloscopy done, about 2/3 months ago, this is the 2nd time I am spotting, and it can last for weeks. I am spotting for more than a week now on this occasion. I don't have periods at all, as I am on a contraception pills, since my daughter was born almost 10 years ago. So it is not my period.

I was thinking, if I do heavy lifting at work, would that have any affect on these things?

Thank you so much again for your replay. Much apprisiated.

  • Hello Eras and thanks for getting back to us,

I don't think the heavy lifting is likely to be causing this spotting. The general advice to anyone who has been on the continuous pill for a while and is persistently bleeding/spotting is to let the GP know so they can decide if anything needs to be done. So I think it would be a good idea to make an appointment and see what they say. The GP might might want to take some swabs to check for infection (which can sometimes cause bleeding/spotting) or consider changing the type of pill you are taking.

I hope you can make an appointment easily to sort this out.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
