Suspect Cancer

Hi All,

I went to my ENT consultant due to a swollen tonsil and no other symptoms and she said they need to come out as she thinks it's cancer!! I said well you can't just say you "think" it's cancer without reference and she said a tonsillectomy was needed - I asked if there was another way to diagnose before going down the surgical route and she said MRI with contrast, my appointment was 4 days later on the Wednesday with a follow up for results booked the following Friday. I've had my scan and I got a call today to tell me that the consultant has asked me to come as soon as possible for the results and could I get there Wednesday instead!! I immediately burst into tears and am now anxious as anything! So it would have been a week since the MRI, should I be worried??

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I can imagine how unsettling this must be for you wondering what the ENT consultant is going to say but thank goodness you are not waiting too long to know more.

I can't say what he is going to say but do try if you can to take one step at a time until you know more. Sometimes it can help to take someone in with you particularly if he is going to be giving you lots of information and you are feeling anxious about your appointment.

I do hope all goes well with your appointment tomorrow and if you want to ring and discuss any of it then you are more then welcome to get back to us.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
