Hello and welcome to the forum

I'm so sorry you are experiencing this it is a worry ,and your bound to be feeling nervous, apprehensive of what the lump may be. Your right in being told it could be a cyst, they do cause pain,I did have breast cancer, found another lump, and was petrified the cancer had returned ,as it was in the same breast,But it wasn't thank goodness,it was a small cyst, and nothing needed to be done about it. I was told by the consultant that many woman do get and do have cysts in thier breasts ,and there are loads walking around with them who don't know they have them . Some woman do experience sore painful breasts with cysts,,some don't. So let's hope yours will be nothing to worry about, but try to stay positive it realy helps.  Do let us know how you get on. Sending you a big hug.x

Sorry to hear that you had breast cancer what made you get checked if you don't mind me asking and glad ur free of it now

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

Finding a lump can cause so much worry but it is good to hear that you are being seen this Wednesday. The majority of lumps seen in a breast clinic are benign (not cancer) but it is always good to get them checked out. There are so many different benign breast conditions. Have a read about breast cysts on Breast Cancer Now's website here

Pain is not usually a symptom of cancer and is usually associated with changes in hormonal levels such as just before your period. Also when you are feeling anxious it can somehow make your symptoms feel so much worse.

Breast Cancer Now also have some information about what to expect from a breast clinic which you can see here

Try and keep yourself busy and distracted today to take your mind off it all.

I hope your appointment goes well and do ring us if you would like to chat with one of the helpline nurses.

We are here Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

Hi sorry for late reply. The reason I found my cancer brest lump, was because of my son. I'd had a namagram in August 2019 ,I coukd feel a tiny lump, pointed it out the radiographer  ,but she said if there is any thing there it will be picked up by the mamagram .We'll it came back clear ,so I didn't worry and didn't keep checking it as I trusted the results. Then just befote 2020 my son called me to tell me he had been diognosed with testicular cancer, I was devastated as he was just 34 a few months off of being 35 in March 2022. Anyway hus spread to his stomach 5mm ,and his chest 3mm ,and a spot on his lung. He had his testicle removed ,and 267hrs of strong chemotherapy.  He's OK now thank goodness, gas regulator blood marker checks, and occasional scans . So that's what made me start to check ny breasts again, and that's when I found the lump  ,it was hard and didn't move, abd I'd been feeling sooo tired, not a normal kind of tiredness,u just felt exhausted. So after two weeks of prodding it wishing it would go away,I knew I'd have to tell my son and mu daughter, which I hated doing ,as my som was having his treatments ,and it was hard ,as we were all worried enough by this with out me adding to this worry. But I told my daughter, who persuaded me to go to my gp, who sent me to urgent 2ww referal. I had another 3 mamagrams and still nothing showed up,the consultant could feel what I could feel,so she orderd an ultrasound, and it was  that, that showed up my tumour. I had 5 biobsys 3 in my right breast, and 2 under my right arm, as she was concerned about my lymph nodes being involved. I has a metal marker clip  put Into my breast, and was told to get dressed and come through to the office. The consultant told me there and then I had breast cancer, it was hard and I had to do it all on my own as covid saw to that,we weren't allowed any one with us. I just sat in my car crying my eyes out thinking, how the heck can I tell my son and daughter. But I did it I got through it.  Then I found another lump a year later in the same breast  But I was lucky it was just a small cyst this time. Then I was diognosed with Vin 3,ore cancerous cells of the vulva, which im still under a gynecologist  and dermatologist  for. I'm being monitored  and will be for years to come. But it is getting your head round it all, being positive  no matter what you go through . I'm so grateful for the NHS ,and everything they have and are still doing for Me my son ,and everyone else they find themselves helping  to get through illnesses.
