Abdominal pains

Me again, my stomach pains have been excruciating and Friday night I ended up in A&E

After a 8hr wait had my stomach examined by a a&e Dr, given 2 codeine and told nothing was flagging up as serious. I explained I was having a colonoscopy and endoscopy and he didn't seem bothered.

Two days later I'm still in extreme pain with no further explanation. All the pain killers I've tried don't work and I've reached a brick wall.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your stomach pains and that you had to go to A&E on Friday Mj_85.

I noticed you posted in our nurses section of the forum so I just wanted to let you know that our nurses don't work at the weekend. They will get back to you within the next couple of days but if you are seeking any medical advice today I would recommend getting in touch with the NHS on 111.

We're thinking of you Mj and really hope this pain can be gotten under control soon.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello Mj_85 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry that you are experiencing such dreadful pain. I'm afraid I can't tell you why but do try and contact your GP to get some advice about which pain killers to take and how often. You might need to have prescription only medicines if over the counter ones aren't working.

If you can't get an appointment today call NHS 111 to get their input and if the pain gets even worse go back to A&E.

I do hope things improve soon.

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here weekdays from 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • I went to my gp few days ago, had my tummy examined. Was td to try another diet and then I had blood taken to rule out ovarian cancer even though she said I was showing no symptoms.

She has prescribed me amitripilin and told me to take 1 a night. When she said she had no clue what was causing my stomach issues I was hoping she would send me for a ct scan but she didn't.

The pain is still there and seems to be getting worse but I don't wanna go back to a&e. Its just seems like I'm hitting a brick wall when I tell them how worried I am.

  • Hi Mj_45 and thanks for posting again.

I'm sorry to hear that you are still having pain and that it seems to be getting worse.  If the amitriptyline is not helping, you could speak to your GP again to let them know what is happening.

As my colleague Julia said, if you are unable to get an appointment today, call NHS 111 to speak to someone and if the pain continues to get worse then go back to A&E.  I know you said you don't want to go back there, but it sounds like you do need someone to help you with your pain relief.

I hope that things start to get better for you.

If you want to speak to one of our nurses, please give us a call on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care
