Nail bed melanoma

Had a nail with stripes, had nail bed biopsy. Results inconclusive. Biopsy repeated with larger excision. Was given appointment to have follow up in 8-10 weeks. Appointment been changed and rushed through to next week. I'm assuming that the biopsy shows it's malignant. Any suggestions as to treatment next?

    Can I suggest you search for subungual melanoma in Search at the top of this page. There are a few members that may be able to help. I can only hazard a guess if the second biopsy was positive for melanoma.

    I'm a superficial spreading melanoma patient (mole on skin) so treatment slightly differs at the start. Hopefully someone will come on with their experience.

    I am sorry to hear you have been undergoing some tests and have an appointment soon to discuss the results.

    I can appreciate you being worried but try not to over think things too much until you have spoken to the doctor about what needs to happen next.

    If the results do show melanoma the team will talk through any further tests they may wish to run and what the treatment plan may look like. This will depend on the type and stage ( size and if it has spread anywhere else) of the cancer but often surgery will be involved.

    Thanx for the replies.Appointment today-back for another op to make sure all margins are clear. Will need a skin graft as it will be quite extensive. If results from the op are not good it is finger removal time- probably to the first or second joint. All cos of a minor stripe in a nail. Hey ho. Just got to get on with it.
