THE LONG ROAD BEING TREATED FOR PROSTATE CANCER

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer [PC] back inJanuary 2018 and had robotic radical prost atectomy in Feb2018, being discharged Feb 2019. Recovery was good.

Due to PSA increse to 0.2 I had hormone therapy Nov 2020 leading to Radiotherapy Apr 2021 to May 2021 [slavage on prostate bed]. Recovery was good.

In April 2022 I started getting bleeding from the back passage & after seeing my GP had a flexible sigmoidoscpy in May 2022. The bleeding was getting more frequent but no pain.

I went to see my oncology consultant yesterday with my concerns & have also arranged through my GP another flexible sigmoidoscopy for next monday. My consultant gave me 2 choices going forward

1. sigoidoscopy with laser treatment to affected area;

2. enima which helps to heal the affescted bowel area

My question is has anyone on the forum had experience/views on these treatments which will help me decide which route to take.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi wackertod and thanks for posting.

    I'm sorry to hear that you are having a worrying time at the moment.

    Unfortunately no one on the forum is going to be able to tell you which option to choose. Your hospital team can advise you about this, outlining the pros and cons of each option, it is then up to you to decide.

    I am able to offer information to help you make an informed choice about your care, but it will ultimately be your decision. The reason for this is it is very individual and what is right for one person doesn't suit another.

    There is some information here about treatment decisions which you may find helpful.

    You have posted in the 'ask the nurse' section of the forum.  You may find you get more people commenting and sharing experiences if you post in another section.

    I hope this is helpful. You might like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take Care
