Myeloma & Covid boosters.

Hello All.
I'm new here with my first post.
I've got smouldering myeloma and had 3 covid boosters. I'm due for next booster this month.
My concern is to have this booster or not.
I've read somewhere that having regular covid boosters with patients that are immunosupressed, could lead to "long covid" conditions.
I would like to hear from anyone who shares my concerns?
Thanks
Mike

  • From what I've heard from many sources I wouldn't be having it ,that's my opinion being as you asked  ,I hope you make the right choices for you but I share your concern which is what you're asking .

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I'm one of the nurses here so thought I would also get back to you as well as others on the forum who also may share their  views and opinions on this matter.

It is recommended that all patients who are immunocompromised to have the covid vaccines and any subsequent boosters to ensure their protection of becoming seriously unwell. As you probably are aware blood cancer patients in particular don't create as much protection as other solid tumour cancer patients but research carried out by the CAPTURE study revealed that antibodies increased significantly with the 3rd dose and it is thought that subsequent boosters will help to maintain this protection for patients.

Here we have a section about covid and cancer and covid vaccines here.

I cannot find any reference to covid boosters causing long covid i'm afraid. Having had a little search around myself research seems to say that covid vaccines may actually do the opposite and reduce the side effects of long covid for individuals.

A decision like this is only one you can make but I really do advise you speak to your own specialist team about any concerns you have. Hopefully they can talk things through with you to help you make an informed decision.

    I hope this helps

    Best wishes

    Naomi
