HPV and low grade cells after Leep procedure

So fed up had a Leep procedure, had a cervical smear after 6 months got a letter today saying high risk HPV and low grade dyskaryosis yet again even after a Leep procedure. My immune system is just not getting rid of the HPV virus. They are now going to have another meeting to discuss what to do next. Anyone else had this problem?

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I appreciate how frustrating this news about the hpv and some abnormal cells still being there after your treatment but sometimes this can happen.

Whilst treatment is usually effective at clearing the abnormal cells in one go sometimes more treatment is needed. Hpv can take a couple of years to clear from the body and for others this can persist for longer. Often the treatment to remove the abnormal cells in turn clears the hpv but not for everyone.

The important thing is this has been picked up and is now being discussed as to what needs to happen next.

Hopefully others will also pop on here to share their similar stories with you.

Do get back if you have more questions or call us on 0808 800 4040 weekdays 9-5 if you prefer.

    Best wishes
