Enlarged lymph nodes

Hi,

Around 10 years ago I first noticed my lymph nodes being enlarged and asked a doctor to check them out. She said that they seemed fine and there was nothing to worry about.

Recently I have noticed them getting larger and I have noticed a new one above my collar bone.

I have booked in at the doctors but the soonest I can get in is the end of November.

I'm really concerned and this isn't like me.

What would every's next steps be?

  • Hello Kdance and thanks for posting,

New and unexplained symptoms can be worrying, but try and keep an open mind - lymph nodes can get bigger for a variety of reasons. However, as you are aware, you do need to get your GP to check you out.

It can be nerve wracking having to wait when you are worried. I am not sure how your GP practice does things, some GP practices offer some appointments on the day if you call first thing - if so, you could give that a try, sometimes you need to call everyday until you get one. You could also try explaining things to the receptionist and ask if there is a way to get an appointment sooner.

The GP  can arrange tests if needed or make a referral to a hospital specialist if they feel it is indicated. So seeing the GP is key to finding out what is going on.

Our standard advice is to keep an eye on things while waiting and if they are getting worse to tell the GP or practice so they know.

Feel free to give us a call if you would like to talk anything over, our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays from 9 -5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
