Testicle pain

Bit of a long story but here goes. Started to get a dull pain in my left testicle over a month ago about 6 weeks. It was almost a constant pain but worse at work whilst heavy lifting. I took a few days off work and took a 2 week course of Doxycycline incase it was epididymis which I thought had sorted it out although it was still sensitive to touch but not that bad so I got signed off work for 2 weeks. I thought the testicle in question felt harder than the other so booked a GP appointment. He had a quick feel around down there and said there was no inconsistencys and there was no need to go for a scan or anything. I asked what about the pain and he said "asking where a pain come from is like seeing a bird and asking where it come from no one can really say" and that was it no blood test offered or urine test I said so there's definitely nothing sinister and he said no, maybe a torn muscle. The pain wasn't just in my testicle but lower abdomen, lower back and left leg. But for the past 2 days the pain in the testicle is different it actually hurts to touch now whereas before it was just uncomfortable.. anyone experienced anything similar I thought after seeing the GP I would feel better but it didn't really put my mind at ease at all. Thanks for listening

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about the pain you have been experiencing.

We can't diagnose you but there are some commonly asked questions about what your testicles should feel like here

If you are concerned about the pain then do go back and see the GP or another GP in the practice who can look at you with a fresh set of eyes. Testicular cancer is not a common cancer so try not to think the worst.

If you are spending a lot of time examining your testicle to look for lumps and bumps this will also make it quite sensitive. It is also easy to assume other aches and pains may be connected but this is not usually the case.

There is some more information written by Men's Health which you can read here

GP's have guidelines when examining testicles and if they did have concerns then they would consider sending you for an ultrasound.

If it does not seem to be settling down then do chat this through with your GP.

If you want to chat this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are very welcome to give us a ring. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • The pain went away for over a month so I stopped worrying about it but has now seemed to have come back. So obviously that makes me think not cancer anyway as surely if it was the pain wouldn't dissapear completely for so long to then come back?

  • As the pain has come back it probably makes sense to mention it to your GP.  So make an appointment with them so they can decide if it needs looking into further.

    Take care

    Martin

  • Hi Martin thanks for the reply, when I manage to actually get a GP appointment I will. He checked them last time and said it wasn't anything to worry about and there was no abnormalities. So I wasn't worried about it being cancer and I'm sure the pain wouldnt go away for over a month and then come back
