High risk hpv positive

Hi!

I found out on Friday I have High risk hpv. I was just wondering if its at all possible to pass this from cleaning a dummy in my mouth? I did this twice before I knew I even had it and now I'm extremely worried I could have passed it on and I feel extreme guilt and due to having borderline personality disorder I'm spiralling and just need to know if it's at all possible to pass this way for High risk? (I do not have warts or anything like that)

Thanks in advance!!

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I think that it would be very unlikely to pass HPV to your daughter through sucking her dummy so do not feel guilty about sucking her dummy.

HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is a very common virus with about 80% of the population being affected at some stage in their life. There are many different strains of the HPV virus and testing for the high risk strains has been introduced in cervical screening because they are responsible for causing changes in the cells in your cervix. In most people their immune systems clears the virus, and it causes no harm, but this can take a couple of years. It does help if you are not a smoker as this can make it harder to get rid of the virus.

The aim of the cervical screening programme is to pick up any cell changes at an early stage, and then either monitor these changes until they go back to normal or when needed treat them to prevent cancer from developing in the future.

I hope this helps. If you feel that you would like to chat through any of this or have any further questions you can always give us a ring.
